Lo inesperada que, a veces, resulta ser la vida. Después de un accidente de coche
que mató a su esposa, Byron Gruman (Johnathon Schaech) decide escapar, huir de la ciudad.
Él, abrumado e incómodo, se dirige hacia Memphis conduciendo el mismo vehículo que condujo
la noche en que perdió a su mujer. De camino, aparece un hombre excéntrico haciendo autostop.
Éste decide recogerlo y pronto descubre que su nuevo compañero de viaje cree ser el mismísimo
Elvis Presley (Harvey Keitel), que quiere llegar a Graceland, Memphis. Al principio, la idea
le parece absurda e insoportable, pero después de que ambos vivan fantásticas experiencias,
a Gruman le resulta cada vez más fascinante la compañía de su nuevo copiloto, con quien,
finalmente creará un fuerte vínculo de amistad.
