Durante unas horas todos los habitantes de Midwich, un tranquilo pueblo costero, pierden el
conocimiento. Poco tiempo después, se produce otro inquietante y extraño fenómeno que parece estar
relacionado con aquel desmayo: la mayor parte de las mujeres de Midwich se han quedado embarazadas.
El médico de la localidad (Christopher Reeve), cuya mujer también está encinta, y una cientifica
(Kirstie Alley), enviada por el gobierno, deciden estudiar el caso a partir del momento en que los
niños empiezan a mostrar una conducta tan sobrenatural como inhumana.
