Peter Bretter (Jason Segel), un músico que lucha por darse a conocer, está desde hace seis años
con la estrella de televisión Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), a la que adora y colma de atenciones,
aunque no es correspondido en la misma medida. Pero el mundo de Peter se derrumba cuando Sarah lo
deja y se queda solo. Su primera reacción es intentar sin éxito convertirse en un mujeriego. A
continuación sufre una crisis nerviosa en el trabajo. Decidido a recuperar la salud mental, decide
irse a Hawai, pero allí tendrá que enfrentarse a la peor pesadilla: Sarah y su nuevo novio, un
